DESCRIPTION:
PicClinic was a classroom assignment in a game design course. It was meant as a creative forum for medical students to use in order to correct ideas they may have about anatomy, procedure, and treatment.
Using social constructivist theory, PicClinic lets students illustrate, label, compare, and critique their own perceptions on anatomy and pathology. The service was aimed at building a community with the goals of teaching, establishing, and maintaining universal mental models of anatomy (and, quite possibly, the placement of surgical tools during intra-operative procedure) through active participation. Through drawing creation, disclosure, and, feedback, PicClinic was meant to be an extension of the classroom by enhancing communication skills during team-based exercises. The theoretical foundations of the design include constructionism, points-of-viewing theory, distributed cognition, and generative learning techniques. Feel free to e-mail me for further documentation on the design.
